Rongali Bihu 2006

4th April 2006

Dear Everybody,

In continuation of my previous mail dated 23rd March regarding our Rongali Bihu celebration on the 13th, I have great pleasure in letting you know that we shall have in our midst Mr. Pulak Banerjee, a renowned singer from Assam (together with two musicians) flying into Dubai .  Mr. Banerjee will hopefully mesmerize us with his soothing melodies.  We shall also have amongst us Mr. Jayanta Nath (from Jorhat)a well known playback singer and a music director to entertain us with his popular songs.

We look forward to all of you joining us in celebrating our beloved Rongali Bihu with our guests and local artists who will enthrall us with songs and colourful dances.

With best wishes,

Utpal Kumar Kataky

On behalf of Asom Somaj.

21st March 2006

Dear Everybody,

Our annual Rongali Bihu is round the corner.  As in the last few years, we are planning this time too to have a colourful and a grand celebration. We have been able to select “TRADERS HOTEL” in Deira, Dubai (Near Old Dubai Cinema) to be the venue for the Cultural programme plus Dinner on

Thursday the 13th April.  The function will start at 8.00 pm  sharp.

More details of the program will follow in due course.

Attempt is being made to fly in a renowned vocalist (with his accompaniments) from Assam  to enthrall us with soothing melodies. Local talents from within U.A.E would add colour to the programme with songs and dance items etc. We are also trying to bring out the 3rd edition of Prabaxi Bihuwan and launch it on the day of the function.

Since both the above require funds, we are looking for sponsorship from private firms as display of banners or adv insertion in the souvenir. Please approach your company, if there is such a possibility.

The contribution per adult has been fixed at Dh. 90, for children between  six and twelve Dh. 50  ( children below 6 years – free  ) .  The above contribution has been very thoughtfully calculated to cover food, entertainment and miscellaneous expenses.

By the way, the total amount collected for the Magh Bihu picnic at Zabeel Park was Dh. 1760 and the total expenditure was  Dh. 1933. There was a deficit of Dh.173

We appeal to everyone from the Asom Somaj community from within U.A.E. to join us wholeheartedly and also extend the invitation to people from

Asom living in the neighbouring countries to join us in this auspicious get-together of frolic and fun.

Since we have to make certain financial commitments in advance, kindly come forward, confirm your participation and pay  your contribution to any of the following members of Asom Somaj.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

EMIRATES TO MAKE ITS DEBUT ENTRY INTO NORTH EAST INDIA

The Emirates Airbus A330-200

Marking its entry in the North East Indian skies, Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline will launch services to Kolkata effective 26th March 2006.

One of the world’s fastest growing airlines, Emirates will operate six non-stop, direct flights per week between Dubai and Kolkata, the capital city of the state of West Bengal.

Emirates will operate an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route in three and two-class configurations.

The start of services to Kolkata will enhance Emirates’ India network to a total of seven cities being served by 63 flights per week.

The announcement follows close on the heels of the airline’s recent decision to fortify its network in South India by launching services to Thiruvananthapuram, and increasing its flights to Cochin and Chennai starting 1st February, 2006 .

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group said: “Emirates is delighted to offer its customers another exciting Indian destination. The start of Emirates flights to Kolkata is one more important milestone in the history of our Indian operations, as it signifies our entry in North East India.”

He added: “Emirates and India go back a long way. The Dubai-based airline commenced its worldwide operations in October 1985 with Mumbai and Delhi as its first few on-line destinations. Over the years, the relationship with India strengthened as Emirates began serving new gateways in Southern India. This relationship is bound to grow stronger now as we begin servicing North East India for the very first time.”

Emirates services between Dubai and Kolkata will open up significant areas of the Middle East to Kolkata’s business, leisure travel and air freight industries.

Kolkata’s corporate sector keen to find new markets for their local products and services can take advantage of Emirates’ 13-destination network in the Middle East.

Through Emirates SkyCargo, the new services are poised to help the export of leather products, silk fabrics and goods, tea, engineering spares and seafood to the Middle East, Europe and North America; and to support the local industry’s needs for electronics, electrical and spare parts, and household goods.
